The Foundation Los Amigos del Pilcomayo (friends of the
Pilcomayo) is a Dutch-Bolivian organization dedicated to the
sustainable protection of the South American Pilcomayo river
and of all life depending on it, including the human population.
The Pilcomayo River
The South American Pilcomayo river, a tribute to the La Plata system, starts its
course in the Andean highlands of Bolivia. From here it follows its course
southeast. It leaves the highlands some 650 km further downstream near the
town of Villamontes. Crossing the Gran Chaco it eventually forms the border
between Argentina and Paraguay. The Pilcomayo harbours a unique array of
wildlife and is famous for its fish. As well a source for food as for water, the
Pilcomayo plays an important role in the lives of the many people who inhabit its
shores. Read more about the Pilcomayo river here.

During its existence LAMPI has executed varies
studies focusing on different ecological aspects of

collect information about the ecology and biological
properties of the population of Sábalo (Prochilodus
lineatus), which, because of it's ecological, economic
and nutritional value, is the most important fish
species in the Pilcomayo river. For more info on this
topic click here.
